
The world premiere of the new high-performance Volkswagen Touareg R50 is set for October 11 at the 2007 Australian International Auto Show.
The Touareg R50 is a hot-rod riff on the current Touareg V10 TDi model, which delivers 308 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The Touareg R50's 5.0-liter diesel V10 makes 350 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, getting it from zero to 62 in 6.7 seconds. It features 4 Motion all-wheel drive and also gets bigger wheels and tires, as well as an upgraded suspension. The German automaker boasts that this version of the Touareg is "one of the most powerful SUVs in the world."
Expect exterior and interior tweaks on the Touareg R50, too, courtesy of Volkswagen Individual GmbH.
Volkswagen continues to flesh out its "R" label, which includes the R32 and the Passat R36, introduced at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
